New Delhi: The Congress lead­er­ship is ready­ing a war against the NDA regime in Par­lia­ment when the bud­get ses­sion re­sumes next week. With the Ut­trak­hand HC strik­ing down the im­po­si­tion of Pres­i­dent’s rule in the state, Congress chief So­nia Gandhi held a meet­ing on Thurs­day evening with some se­nior col­leagues, in­clud­ing floor lead­ers in both Houses, where it was de­cided that the party should rally like-minded par­ties in both Hous­esagain­st­theCen­tre’s“as­sault on­prin­ci­pleof fed­er­al­is­man­d­de­lib­er­ate tar­get­ing of Op­po­si­tion states and lead­ers,” party in­sid­ers said. The bit­ter­ness in the re­la­tions be­tween the gover nment and Op­po­si­tion could ham­per pas­sage of leg­is­la­tions, in­clud­ing GST bill.

Among lead­ers who at­tended the meet­ing were Ahmed Pa­tel, Man­mo­han Singh, Ghu­lam Nabi AzadandA­nandSharma.The­meet­ing re­solved to counter the govern­ment in­side and out­side Par­lia­ment over the govern­ment’s at­tack on the Congress brass on the Ishrat case.

“Not only has PM failed to act against the un­called for at­tacks on the Op­po­si­tion, but there has been a se­ries of un­con­sti­tu­tional dis­missals of o ur g ove r nments.The­man­ner in which the Cen­tre and BJP have been tar­get­ing the Congress pres­i­dent, VP and other lead­ers on man­u­fac­tured and base­less al­le­ga­tions on the Ishrat case is un­ac­cept­able. We will fight out in­side and out­side Par­lia­ment,” Congress Ra­jya Sabha deputy leader Anand Sharma told ET. AICC spokesper­son Abhishek Singhvi said the Cen­tre should now and think twice be­fore tar­get­ing other Op­po­si­tion-ruled states.
