New Delhi: The Congress leadership is readying a war against the NDA regime in Parliament when the budget session resumes next week. With the Uttrakhand HC striking down the imposition of President’s rule in the state, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi held a meeting on Thursday evening with some senior colleagues, including floor leaders in both Houses, where it was decided that the party should rally like-minded parties in both HousesagainsttheCentre’s“assault onprincipleof federalismanddeliberate targeting of Opposition states and leaders,” party insiders said. The bitterness in the relations between the gover nment and Opposition could hamper passage of legislations, including GST bill.
Among leaders who attended the meeting were Ahmed Patel, Manmohan Singh, Ghulam Nabi AzadandAnandSharma.Themeeting resolved to counter the government inside and outside Parliament over the government’s attack on the Congress brass on the Ishrat case.
“Not only has PM failed to act against the uncalled for attacks on the Opposition, but there has been a series of unconstitutional dismissals of o ur g ove r nments.Themanner in which the Centre and BJP have been targeting the Congress president, VP and other leaders on manufactured and baseless allegations on the Ishrat case is unacceptable. We will fight out inside and outside Parliament,” Congress Rajya Sabha deputy leader Anand Sharma told ET. AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said the Centre should now and think twice before targeting other Opposition-ruled states.
