Owner of Meat De­liv­ery Startup Li­cious Raises $3 m

Ben­galuru: On­line fresh meat de­liv­ery firm De­light­ful Gourmet has raised $3 mil­lion (about .₹ 20 crore) from May­field In­dia to fund in­no­va­tion and ex­pan­sion for its brand Li­cious.

This is the first large fund­ing that the Ben­galuru-based com­pany has re­ceived. Four months ago, De­light­ful Gourmet had se­cured $1 mil­lion (about .₹ 6.4 crore) in an­gel fund­ing from a clutch of in­vestors in­clud­ing for­mer In­fosys board mem­ber Mo­han­das Pai and ex-He­lion Ven­tures co-founder Kan­wal­jeet Singh. “The com­pany will use the funds to also en­hance its tech­nol­ogy and an­a­lytic ca­pa­bil­i­ties, along with en­ter­ing new mar­kets such as Mum­bai and Delhi,” said Ab­hay Han­jura, an in­surance in­dus­try pro­fes­sional who founded Li­cious in June 2015 along with Vivek Gupta, for­mer fi­nance con­troller at He­lion Ven­ture Part­ner. Li­cious, which man­ages meat and seafood sup­ply chain from pro­cess­ing to de­liv­ery, claims it re­ceives nearly 15,000 or­ders per month on an av­er­age. The firm has a cen­tral pro­cess­ing unit in Ben­galuru and 10 de­liv­ery cen­tres across the city.
