Bengaluru: Sachin and Binny Bansal, cofounders of India’s most-valued internet company Flipkart, have been named to TIME magazines 2016 list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The Bansals, who are not related, find themselves on the list with technology titans like Apple CEO Tim Cook and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, global leaders like Vladimir Putin and sports icons Lewis Hamilton. Both Bansals, who studied at IIT-Delhi and worked at Amazon, founded Flipkart in 2007 as an online book retailer but now the company sells smartphones, electronics, apparel, furniture and automobiles. The duo were also named to Forbes’ billionaire list after Flipkart got valued over $15 billion in its last round of funding in July 2015. “This is truly a recognition of the Indian internet ecosystem and its role in using technology to solve local problems that is enabling Indians to lead a better life. It reinforces our resolve to fast track Flipkart's mission of transforming commerce in India through technology,” said Sachin and Binny Bansal in a statement.
