SC Steps In, Uttarakhand Back Under Prez Rule HC order reinstating Harish Rawat govt held in abeyance till April 27
New Delhi: Uttarakhand will be under President’s rule till April 27, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday, holding in abeyance the Uttarakhand High Court order of the previous day which had reinstated the Harish Rawat-led government in the state.
A bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and Shivakirti Singh passed an interim order directing the central government not to revoke the presidential proclamation till April 27.
Analysts said the order came as a shot in the arm for the cen- tral government which had been pushed on the defensive by the high court order that gave Congress an issue to rally around the Opposition in Parliament in the second leg of the Budget session, which is set to begin on Monday. The order came after AttorneyGeneral Mukul Rohatgi argued for an urgent stay on the HC ruling on the grounds that though the order was passed in open court in presence of all parties, in absence of a written copy it cannot be acted upon by one party to the detriment of another.
