More Benefits, But Less Work

The Economic Times - - Breaking Ideas -

Apropos the news report, ‘Forget Weekends, Children’s Birthdays, Modi Tells Babus’ (Apr 22), an astute PM, very hard-working himself, has realised in less than a year that babus trail behind set targets. But his government’s pay panels are unable to see that plain fact. The seventh pay panel has even laboured to arrive at a pedantic figure of a 23.55% increase in salaries. It now has the additional onus of convincing the PM, besides the common man. The PM may have a soft heart for babus, but not the taxpaying citizen, whose contribution equals the central government’s expenses on salaries and pensions.
