In­dia, Pak For­eign Se­cys to Talk on Ter­ror, NIA Visit

The two for­eign sec­re­taries to meet to­day af­ter the Jan­uary Pathankot at­tack Meet­ing comes af­ter two sides re­cently de­clared that they were in touch for talks

New Delhi: Morethanthree­months af­ter the Indo-Pak for­eign sec­re­tary lev­el­dia­logueinIs­lam­abad­was­post­poned fol­low­ing the Pathankot ter­ror at­tacks, the two for­eign sec­re­taries will meet here on Tues­day, with Delhi ex­pected to em­pha­sise on strong counter-ter­ror ac­tions, in­clud­ing steps against JeM chief and mas­ter­mind of Pathankot at­tack Maulana Ma­sood Azhar.

here re­fused to pre­dict the out­come of the meet­ing, they pointed out that ter­ror­ism will fig­ure promi­nently at the FS-level di­a­logue.

TheIn­di­an­sid­e­dur­ingth­e­meet­ing may also drive home the point on rec­i­proc­ity for the visit by Na­tional In­ves­ti­ga­tion Agency to Pak­istan in the Pathankot at­tack case af­ter the Pak JIT vis­ited In­dia.

Delhi is also ex­pected to seek an up­date into the in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the Pathankot case.

It may be re­called that Jais­hankar had twice em­pha­sised in re­cent months that ter­ror will take prece­dence over di­a­logue. “Pak­istan for­eign sec­re­tary is vis­it­ing In­dia to par­tic­i­pate in the Heart of Asia Is­tan­bul Process Se­nior Of­fi­cials meet­ing con­vened by In­dia on April 26. He will also have bi­lat­eral meet­ing with FS Jais­hankar,” said peo­ple fa­mil­iar with the mat­ter.

Ex­press­ing sim­i­lar sen­ti­ments, Pak­istan For­eign Of­fice said: “Sec­re­tary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry will lead Pak­istan del­e­ga­tion to this meet­ing...Pak­istan looks for­ward to ac­tive par­tic­i­pa­tion in the forth­com­ing Se­nior Of­fi­cials Meet­ing of the Heart of Asia process re­flect­ing our com­mit­ment­to­ef­forts­for­pro­mot­ing long-term peace and sta­bil­ity in Afghanistan.” The meet­ing comes af­ter the two sides re­cently de­clared that they were in touch to hold a meet­ing of their for­eign sec­re­taries, who will draw up the modal­i­ties for hold­ing a Com­pre­hen­sive Bi­lat­eral Di­a­logue (CBD).
