IPL Racks Up Big Score on Face­book

On­go­ing tour­na­ment gen­er­ates 111 mil­lion in­ter­ac­tions on the so­cial me­dia plat­form

New Delhi: In­dia’s big­gest cricket stars and in­flu­encers are not just step­ping up ac­tion on the IPL pitches but on so­cial me­dia as well.

Face­book said the on­go­ing IPL gen­er­ated about 111 mil­lion in­ter­ac­tions on the plat­form till April 20, with 14.2 mil­lion users log­ging in to dis­cuss the game. From Vi­rat Kohli post­ing a thank you pic­ture and note for his Royal Chal­lengers Ban­ga­lore trainer to Ravin­dra Jadeja un­veil­ing his first pic­ture with his bride and AB De Vil­liers post­ing be­hind the scenes snip­pets of his shoot with Kohli and Gayle on In­sta­gram, crick­eters and users are shar­ing key mo­ments and be­hind the scenes ac­tion.

“More cricket fans en­gage with con­tent on Face­book than any­where else,” said Asha Thacker, strate­gic part­ner-de­vel­op­ment at Face­book.

“For the first time this sea­son, IPL fans can sup­port their favourite teams by adding exclusive frames. Peo­ple will also have an op­por­tu­nity to ex­press their sup­port through ex­cit­ing fea­tures like ded­i­cated prompts fea­tur­ing an all new cus­tom icon to let their friends know they are watch­ing the game.”

“With Face­book Live, fans are able to get closer to the ac­tion than ever be­fore and on match days, fans can watch videos and see images di­rectly from the sta­dium and re­live key mo­ments from the IPL Face­book page and In­sta­gram ac­counts,” she added.

Vi­rat Kohli is the most dis­cussed player on Face­book and Mum­bai In­di­ans is the most dis­cussed team. Kohli, Yu­vraj Singh, Ro­hit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Chris Gayle have 27.1 mil­lion, 11.6 mil­lion, 9.5 mil­lion, 6.7 mil­lion and 6.2 mil­lion fol­low­ers, re­spec­tively, on Face­book. Kohli rules the pop­u­lar­ity charts on In­sta­gram as well with 3 mil­lion fol­low­ers, fol­lowed by AB de Vil­liers and Yu­vraj Singh at 1 mil­lion each.
