Mon­delez Opens its Largest Asia-Pa­cific Fa­cil­ity in Andhra

Hy­der­abad: Mon­delez In­ter­na­tional on Mon­day com­mis­sioned the first phase of its largest Asia-Pa­cific man­u­fac­tur­ing fa­cil­ity com­ing up in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri City. The fac­tory that has been set up with an ini­tial in­vest­ment of $190 mil­lion is the seventh in In­dia for the maker of Cad­bury Dairy Milk choco­lates. Andhra Pradesh chief min­is­ter N Chan­drababu Naidu in­au­gu­rated the plant.

The fa­cil­ity will come up in three stages and will pro­duce 2.5 lakh tonnes of choco­lates and bis­cuits when fully com­pleted in 2020.

In the ini­tial phase, it will man­u­fac­ture 60,000 tonnes of Cad­bury Dairy Milk choco­lates.

On choos­ing In­dia as the des­ti­na­tion for its largest Asia-Pa­cific fa­cil­ity, Mau­r­izio said: “The favourable busi­ness en­vi­ron­ment here, cou­pled with the re­quired in­fras­truc­ture, ta­lent pool and govern­ment sup­port at­tracted (us) to­wards In­dia.”

Mon­delez In­ter­na­tional’s Asia-Pa­cific pres­i­dent, Mau­r­izio Bru­sadelli, said the bis­cuits and choco­lates gi­ant cur­rently en­joys a 65% mar­ket share in the In­dian choco­late mar­ket. Cit­ing a Neilsen re­port, he said the com­pany ex­pects to dou­ble its busi­ness here in three to five years.
