CM’s constituency.

She alleges the state has been in “sleep mode for five years.” She has a campaign style very different to Jayalalithaa’s. Campaigning in the evening,Kanimozhiarrivesontime, gladly accepts greetings from people and speaks for less than 20 minutes, reminding people of the “apathy of the government during floods” and onissuesrelatedtotheirwelfare. She goes from house to house in villages, making it a point to have meals with the party’s local functionaries.

She is armed with statistics that challenge the government’s claims of progress, including TN being a surplus power state. “In the entire western belt there are several power cutsandpowerisbeingboughtnow.”

All didn’t look well in the DMK patriarch’s family till a year ago. However now, Kanimozhi is seen to be a supporter of her half-brother Stalin. But she makes it clear, “Karunanidhi will be the CM this time too.” Defending allegations that herfamilypromotesdynastypolitics she said, “it is about how in many political families take to party politics...there are many who work for years to strengthen the party. Stalin, for instance, has worked for 45 years to build the party’s youth wing. How can one disregard that?”
