Nokia Loads a Health App with Withings Buy

Helsinki: Nokia has struck a deal to buy France’s Withings for 170 mil­lion ($191 mil­lion) in its first move into the mar­ket for dig­i­tal prod­ucts that mon­i­tor health.

Withings’ prod­ucts in­clude ac­tiv­ity track­ers, weigh­ing scales, ther­mome­ters, blood pres­sure mon­i­tors and baby mon­i­tors built on a dig­i­tal plat­form. “We have said con­sis­tently that dig­i­tal health was an area of strate­gic in­ter­est to Nokia, and we are now tak­ing con­crete ac­tion to tap the op­por­tu­nity in this large and im­por­tant mar­ket,” Nokia CEO Ra­jeev Suri said.

Withings has about 200 em­ploy­ees. The deal is ex­pected to close in the third quar­ter.
