ICMR, Sun Pharma to Jointly Work on New Drug Development
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will collaborate with pharma company Sun Pharma on the development of drugs and other treatment strategies that affect the country at the same proportion as malaria, said director general Soumya Swaminathan, reports Prabha Raghavan.
“We have to come out with more drugs that are made in India. Many of them could be traditional,” said Swaminathan, who also announced a PPP with Sun Pharma on April 25 to eradicate malaria in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district. While ICMR and Sun Pharma did not elaborate on the other disease areas that would be targeted through their tie-up, ICMR would contribute to R&D of innovator drugs in the country, said Swaminathan.
