Only sil­ver bucked the trend and saw a 44% rise in ex­ports

Kolkata: Ex­ports of gems and jew­ellery from In­dia de­clined 3.46% in 2015-16 from a year ago to $38.59 bil­lion due to slow­down in the global econ­omy.

Only sil­ver jew­ellery bucked the trend and saw a 44% in­crease in over­seas ship­ments, as per data from the Gem & Jew­ellery Ex­port Pro­mo­tion Coun­cil (GJEPC), while ex­ports of ev­ery other item in the bas­ket, in­clud­ing cut and pol­ished di­a­monds, gold jew­ellery and coloured gem­stones went down.
