Or­di­nance to­mor­row for pro­vid­ing quota for mem­bers of house­holds earn­ing be­low 6 lakh/year

Gand­hi­na­gar: TheBJP­gov­ern­ment is all set to pro­mul­gate an or­di­nance onSun­day­to­pro­vide10%reser­va­tion in state gov­ern­ment jobs and ed­u­ca­tion in­sti­tu­tions for eco­nom­i­cally back­ward sec­tions. The de­ci­sion was taken at a BJP core com­mit­tee meet­ing chaired by party na­tional pres­i­dent Amit Shah.

Speak­ing to the me­dia later, Gu­jarat BJP pres­i­dent Vi­jay Ru­pani said that the or­di­nance will be pro­mul­gated on May 1, the foun­da­tion day of the state, and a bill will be in­tro­duced in the state assem­bly later.

Ru­pani said that the reser­va­tion will be pro­vided to mem­bers of a fam­ily that have an an­nual in­come ceil­ing of ₹ 6 lakh and will not im­pinge on reser­va­tions pro­vided for other sec­tions.

The reser­va­tions will be over and above the ₹ 1,000 crore Mukhya­mantri Yuva Swavalam­ban Yo­jana an­nounced­by­chief min­is­terA­nandiben Patel and will be en­forced from this fi­nan­cial/aca­demi­cyear.Ru­pa­ni­pointed out that while the draft of the or­di­nancewil­lbe­made­with­ad­e­quate­care and the state gov­ern­ment would de­fend the same in both high court and the Supreme Court if the need arises.

The Congress had ear­lier moved a pri­vate­mem­ber’sbillseek­ing20%reser­va­tion for eco­nom­i­cally back­ward classes, be­sides set­ting up of a five­mem­ber panel to sug­gest ways to im­ple­ment reser­va­tions for them with­out vi­o­lat­ing the 49% statu­tory cap im­posed by the Supreme Court.

The news was not enough to pacify ag­i­tat­ing Pati­dars. The ag­i­ta­tors body called it ‘laugh­able’. Stat­ing that the ag­i­ta­tion was started with the de-

Since all com­mu­ni­ties have ben- efit­ted from the Pati­dar move­ment, as the gov­ern­ment has been forced to first an­nounce Mukhya­mantri Yuva Swavalam­ban Yo­jana and EBC reser­va­tions, they should all ex­tend sup­port to the move­ment, he said.
