An In­dian Sum­mer at Cannes Lions 2016

Many of In­dia’s pre­vi­ous win­ners find place on the jury for 2016 event

Mum­bai: Sev­eral of In­dia’s big win­ners in pre­vi­ous edi­tions of the fes­ti­val have made it to the jury at the 63rd Cannes Lions In­ter­na­tional Fes­ti­val of Cre­ativ­ity, widely reck­oned to be the ad and mar­ket­ing in­dus­try’s most pres­ti­gious event.

The In­dian ju­rors this year in­clude Pra­soon Joshi, chair­man (Asia Pa­cific), CEO and CCO (In­dia) McCann World­group, for En­ter­tain­ment Lions – Mu­sic (his Hap­py­dent com­mer­cial won a Bronze gong for mu­sic al­most a decade ago); Ashish Bhasin, chair­man and CEO (South Asia), Dentsu Aegis Net­work for Me­dia; Swati Bhat­tacharya, chief cre­ative of­fi­cer, FCB Ulka for Print; Josy Paul, chair­man and chief cre­ative of­fi­cer, BBDO In­dia for Glass (a cat­e­gory in which his agency won a Grand Prix last year) and Sau­rabh Varma, chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, Leo Bur­nett (South Asia) for Cre­ative Ef­fec­tive­ness.

Jury mem­bers for other cat­e­gories in­clude: Zeno­bia Pithawalla, ex­ec­u­tive cre­ative di­rec­tor, Ogilvy & Mather for Films; Amit Sharma, di­rec­tor, Chrome Pic­tures for Film Craft; Pradyumna Chauhan, NCD, McCann World­group for Out­door; Ravi Desh­pande, founder and chair­man, Why­ness for Cy­ber; Elsie Nanji, man­ag­ing part­ner, Red Lion for De­sign; Ramesh Iyen­gar, CMD, Select Di­rect for Di­rect; Bindu Menon, CEO, Point Blank Ad­ver­tis­ing for Health and Va­lerie Pinto, chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, We­ber Shand­wick for PR. The com­mit­tee, early this year, an­nounced some sig­nif­i­cant changes to the 2016 awards. The Press Lions has be­come the Print & Pub­lish­ing Lions and Dig­i­tal Craft is a sep­a­rate cat­e­gory from the Cy­ber and Mo­bile Lions. The Ti­ta­nium & In­te­grated Lions are be­ing sep­a­rated, with Ti­ta­nium and In­te­grated now be­ing judged as stand­alone cat­e­gories. The De­sign Lions will see a new suite of Experience De­sign cat­e­gories and an ex­panded So­cial sec­tion, and the Out­door Lions will in­clude a large Dig­i­tal Out­door sec­tion, too.

The En­ter­tain­ment Lions will re­place the Branded Con­tent & En­ter­tain­ment Lions. A new cat­e­gory En­ter­tain­ment Lions for Mu­sic has also been in­tro­duced ac­knowl­edg­ing mu­sic's sig­nif­i­cant role within en­ter­tain­ment.
