An Indian Summer at Cannes Lions 2016
Many of India’s previous winners find place on the jury for 2016 event
Mumbai: Several of India’s big winners in previous editions of the festival have made it to the jury at the 63rd Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, widely reckoned to be the ad and marketing industry’s most prestigious event.
The Indian jurors this year include Prasoon Joshi, chairman (Asia Pacific), CEO and CCO (India) McCann Worldgroup, for Entertainment Lions – Music (his Happydent commercial won a Bronze gong for music almost a decade ago); Ashish Bhasin, chairman and CEO (South Asia), Dentsu Aegis Network for Media; Swati Bhattacharya, chief creative officer, FCB Ulka for Print; Josy Paul, chairman and chief creative officer, BBDO India for Glass (a category in which his agency won a Grand Prix last year) and Saurabh Varma, chief executive officer, Leo Burnett (South Asia) for Creative Effectiveness.
Jury members for other categories include: Zenobia Pithawalla, executive creative director, Ogilvy & Mather for Films; Amit Sharma, director, Chrome Pictures for Film Craft; Pradyumna Chauhan, NCD, McCann Worldgroup for Outdoor; Ravi Deshpande, founder and chairman, Whyness for Cyber; Elsie Nanji, managing partner, Red Lion for Design; Ramesh Iyengar, CMD, Select Direct for Direct; Bindu Menon, CEO, Point Blank Advertising for Health and Valerie Pinto, chief executive officer, Weber Shandwick for PR. The committee, early this year, announced some significant changes to the 2016 awards. The Press Lions has become the Print & Publishing Lions and Digital Craft is a separate category from the Cyber and Mobile Lions. The Titanium & Integrated Lions are being separated, with Titanium and Integrated now being judged as standalone categories. The Design Lions will see a new suite of Experience Design categories and an expanded Social section, and the Outdoor Lions will include a large Digital Outdoor section, too.
The Entertainment Lions will replace the Branded Content & Entertainment Lions. A new category Entertainment Lions for Music has also been introduced acknowledging music's significant role within entertainment.
