Non-bailable Warrant Issued Against Mallya
The special CBI court in Mumbai issued a non-bailable warrant against beleaguered liquor baron Vijay Mallya after the CBI moved extradition plea against him, reports The agency is expected to approach the MEA on Wednesday regarding the same. This is the Modi government’s single biggest move to bring Mallya back. Last year, the UK government had rejected the request made by the Indian government, citing legal complications, after which finance minister Arun Jaitley had said extradition proceedings will start once CBI files a chargesheet. An affidavit was submitted by CBI in court on Tuesday, which claims that Mallya is a wanted criminal, and hence, should be brought back to India. The affidavit will be submitted to the foreign ministry, which will then approach its UK counterparts for extradition.
