This refers to ‘Put Brakes on This Gravy Train’ by S Push­pa­vanam (Jan 31), the PM needs to take a call se­ri­ously on the In­dian Rail­ways by trim­ming the mam­moth num­ber of em­ploy­ees strate­gi­cally to cur­tail the op­er­at­ing cost. Yes, they need to be ready with dili­gence to han­dle the ef­fect of sev­er­ing an un­pro­duc­tive part of the em­ployee sec­tion.

The bur­den of the debit side of the bal­ance sheet would then shrink to pro­vide it a healthy look. Lots of plan­ning needs to be done to ex­e­cute this sur­gi­cal op­er­a­tion. In fact, the most vi­tal de­part­ment like the safety sys­tem needs enor­mous up­grad­ing us­ing the ar­ti­fi­cial in­tel­li­gence tech­nol­ogy to pre­vent fre­quent ac­ci­dents, al­most a reg­u­lar fea­ture now.
