Ahead of Phase One, Akhilesh And Rahul to Hold Three Joint Shows
Agra: To ensure that the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance percolates to the ground ahead of the Phase One of polling in the state on February 11, Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi will appear together at three events in important cities in the next week.
The first will be a road show which will kick off from Agra on Friday with Rahul and Akhilesh to go on a 12-km long bus ride through the heart of Agra and three of its assembly constituencies. On Sunday, there will be another road show in Kanpur by the two leaders where a ‘common minimum programme’ of the two parties could be announced. On February 7, the two leaders will have their first joint rally in Meerut, which goes to polls o n Fe b r u a r y 1 1 . P r i me Minister Narendra Modi will also hold rally in Meerut on February 4.
The idea is to take the road shows through urban centers as people here usually do not turn up at rallies. The Meerut rally by the two leaders is expected to send an unambiguous message in Phase 1 seats that the two parties are togeth- er on the ground. Many candidates from both parties are expected to be present at the Meerut rally. Sources said the two parties had also struck a deal over the ten seats in Amethi and Rae Bareli. Congress will now be contesting bulk of these seats.
In Agra, the two leaders will meet at the airport at 1 pm before driving down to the city’s Dayalbagh area from where the road show will start and pass through areas l i ke Bhagwan Talkies and MG Road before culminating at Chipitola crossing. This route is avoiding some Muslimdominated areas of Agra like Favarra and Doligar areas, a route taken by Rahul during his Kisan Yatra through Agra.
