SC Seeks Re­sponse of Gu­jarat Govt on Plea Against Ex­ten­sion to DGP Pandey

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has sought the re­sponse of the Gu­jarat gov­ern­ment on a plea against pro­mo­tion and ex­ten­sion given to DGP PP Pandey, out on bail in the Ishrat Ja­han en­counter case. A bench of Chief Jus­tice JS Khe­har and Jus­tices NV Ra­mana and DY Chan­drachud is­sued no­tice to the state gov­ern­ment. Se­nior ad­vo­cate Kapil Sibal ap­pear­ing for the pe­ti­tioner said that the of­fi­cer was granted bail, re­in­stated, pro­moted and re­warded de­spite be­ing an ac­cused in a mur­der case. He said a cou­ple of days back he was given three months ex­ten­sion. The bench said no­tice has been is­sued and he should wait for the re­sponse. The Ap­point­ments Com­mit­tee of the Cab­i­net had granted the three-month ex­ten­sion to Pandey, who was sup­posed to re­tire on Jan­uary 31..—
