Agra: The crowd at Bhadawar waited for UP BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya for two hours before his helicopter landed. But the wait was worth as Maurya told them in typical style that when BJP returns to power in UP, neither Bua nor Babua (Mayawati and Akhilesh) would be spared. “How can you trust someone who betrayed his own father,” he asked, with the crowd lustily cheering him. He then told them that only those who lived near the SP bastion of Etawah received basic amenities. Maurya claimed that BJP was poised to get over 300 seats in UP and heading for a one-sided win in western UP.

Later, speaking to ET on the reported tussle between the RSS and BJP over ticket distribution, Maurya said there was nothing like being favoured or rejected by the RSS. “I am a swayamsevak myself. RSS is a cultural organisation that puts the nation ahead of everything. Every swayamsevak knows that among the SP, BSP and BJP, only the BJP is good for UP. He also knows the impact that 2017 can have on 2019. “I am confident every RSS member here will vote for the BJP and mobilise others to vote for it too.” Maurya said that 95% of upset partymen have been made to understand the compulsions of ticket distribution and were campaigning for the party now. “Big leaders have spoken to them, listened to their grievances. We admit we could not give tickets to some deserving candidates. But we will never compromise on their honour. The party will ensure workers get ample opportunities to progress. I understand their pain as I am a worker too. They can be upset with us, but they won’t be against us.” Maurya claimed that the Union Budget had promised relief of .₹ 10,000 crore to farmers and has a proposal to develop 50,000 villages. “Traders and middle class too are happy with tax relief. BJP at its first Cabinet meeting in UP will waive off loans of farmers and announce interest-free loans for them. People of UP know Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an honest man and have faith in him.”

Lashing out at the UP chief minister he said, “Akhilesh is anti-development. He has spent his entire lifetime building his own image. If he has done work here why did he need support of the Congress that has no existence in UP?” According to him, the CM’s biggest failure was his ‘encouragement’ to goondas and corrupt. ‘Migration’ of Hindus and ‘protection’ to ‘Muslim goondas’ made people lose faith in SP. The BJP will bring all those people back and because of whom they had to flee their home, he claimed. Turning to BSP chief Mayawati, he claimed that she was no longer trusted by her own partymen as she had ‘ditched the poor for wealth’.
