IPL to Conduct Auction of Players on Feb 20 in B’luru
Mumbai: Ending all the suspense on the dates, the governing council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced February 20 as the date for the players’ auction for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league. The announcement also puts to rest the speculation that the auction venue might shift from Bengaluru to Mumbai after holding the last 3 auctions.
Interestingly, the first IPL Player auction in the year 2008 was also held on February 20, back in 2008.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement that the auction will be held at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Bengaluru. It will see eight franchises, having a total balance purse of .₹ 143.33 crore, bidding for the players for the upcoming season. While Kings XI Punjab will go to the auction with largest purse of .₹ 23.35 crore, Delhi Daredevils have .₹ 23.1 crore left to buy new players. Sunrisers Hyderabad (.`20.9 crore), Kolkata Knight Riders (.`19.75 crore), Royal Pune Super Giants (.`17.5 crore), Gujarat Lions (.`14.35 crore), Royal Challengers Bangalore (.`12.285 crore) and Mumbai Indians with .₹ 11.555 crore will also jostle for player of their choices.
