IPL to Con­duct Auc­tion of Players on Feb 20 in B’luru

Mum­bai: End­ing all the sus­pense on the dates, the gov­ern­ing coun­cil of the In­dian Premier League (IPL) has an­nounced Fe­bru­ary 20 as the date for the players’ auc­tion for the up­com­ing edi­tion of the cash-rich T20 league. The an­nounce­ment also puts to rest the spec­u­la­tion that the auc­tion venue might shift from Ben­galuru to Mum­bai after hold­ing the last 3 auc­tions.

In­ter­est­ingly, the first IPL Player auc­tion in the year 2008 was also held on Fe­bru­ary 20, back in 2008.

The Board of Con­trol for Cricket in In­dia (BCCI) said in a state­ment that the auc­tion will be held at the Ritz-Carl­ton ho­tel in Ben­galuru. It will see eight fran­chises, hav­ing a to­tal bal­ance purse of .₹ 143.33 crore, bid­ding for the players for the up­com­ing sea­son. While Kings XI Pun­jab will go to the auc­tion with largest purse of .₹ 23.35 crore, Delhi Dare­dev­ils have .₹ 23.1 crore left to buy new players. Sun­ris­ers Hy­der­abad (.`20.9 crore), Kolkata Knight Rid­ers (.`19.75 crore), Royal Pune Su­per Gi­ants (.`17.5 crore), Gu­jarat Lions (.`14.35 crore), Royal Chal­lengers Ban­ga­lore (.`12.285 crore) and Mum­bai In­di­ans with .₹ 11.555 crore will also jos­tle for player of their choices.
