New Delhi: Uber will launch an ondemand cab service called UberHIRE, which will let users hire a cab for up to 12 hours, like a city or local taxi service.

Following a successful pilot in Kochi, the service is being rolled out on Monday in eight more cities: New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vizag and Nagpur. It will be expanded to other cities later. The service will let riders make multiple stops, like a local taxi service, in a time-based model within the city. “Our technology makes it possible for us to create specialised solutions that can help users have access to reliable transportation at affordable prices. UberHIRE is one such product that addresses the unique commuting needs of riders in India, especially that of tourists, business travellers, senior citizens, and working professionals by letting them book an Uber and use it for up to12 hours,” said Apurva Dalal, head of engineering at Uber India. The minimum fare would be ₹ 449-649 depending on the city for two hours and up to 30 kilometers.

Post this, riders will be charged at ₹ 2 per minute and ₹ 12 per kilometre, with no dynamic or surge pricing. A rider will be able to see the UberHIRE option in the Uber app. The final payment will be made in cash for now with an e-receipt.
