Shamli: Congress vice-pres­i­dent Rahul Gandhi used a pop­u­lar catch phrase of an ad­ver­tise­ment to slam Prime Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi on de­mon­eti­sa­tion at an elec­tion rally in Shamli on Mon­day and em­pha­sised thatthe­move­had­caused­hard­ships­for the com­mon peo­ple and farm­ers while the rich man­aged to turn their black money into white. “Wher­ever Modi goes, he makes ex­cuses. His big­gest lie wa­son­theis­sueof de­mon­eti­sa­tion.On Novem­ber8,hes­toodu­pand­saidanew idea has come to his mind. He tells the coun­try on tele­vi­sion, ‘bhaiyo aur be­heno, the cash in your pocket that you earned­with­y­our­sweatand­blood­isno longer le­gal’. What an idea!” Gandhi said, amid ap­plause.

Gandhi,whowasac­com­pa­nied­byJat leader Bhupin­der Hooda, reached out to the youth and farm­ers of western UP. He promised them jobs and good price for their pro­duce re­spec­tively. He said­whileModi’s‘friendsinthe­me­dia’ hailed the de­ci­sion, the rest of the world and noted econ­o­mists had crit­i­cised the move. “The rest of the world and re­puted econ­o­mists are won­der­ing what ill­ness be­fell him that he took this de­ci­sion. Cor­rup­tion is be­ing fought in other coun­tries too (but they did­not­makeany­such­move).Modi­has told peo­ple that your money is use­less, tear it and throw it away. Go stand in the queue,” Gandhi said.
