A Question Worth 6 Lakh

The Economic Times - - The Edit Page -

The government wants to impose 100% penalty for receiving .₹ 3 lakh or more in cash, but it has not clarified whether the cut-off amount is for single transaction or total transactions with a party in a day. Further, the government should announce who will detect such cash payments. If the police is empowered to ensure the compliance, it may lead to more corruption and harassment of gullible businessmen and traders. The government should revisit the provision lest its improper implementation disturb the mission of ‘ease of doing business’.
