Postal Dept Rev­enue Deficit Widens to ₹ 8,670 cr

Rev­enue deficit of the Depart­ment of Post (DoP) widened to ₹ 8,670 crore in the April-De­cem­ber pe­riod of this fis­cal, but var­i­ous ini­tia­tives — in­clud­ing pass­port fa­cil­ity and other gov­ern­ment ser­vices through post — are ex­pected to rake in more rev­enue. DoP reg­is­tered a rev­enue deficit of ₹ 6,007 crore in 2015-16, as per data shared by com­mu­ni­ca­tions min­is­ter Manoj Sinha. The rev­enue deficit of the postal depart­ment was ₹ 5,473 crore in 2013-14 which in­creased to ₹ 6,259 crore in 2014-15 and then nar­rowed to ₹ 6,007 crore in 2015-16. To­tal rev­enue of the DoP was ₹ 9,307 crore at the end of De­cem­ber 2016. The depart­ment reg­is­tered rev­enue of ₹ 10,730 crore in 2013-14, ₹ 11,636 crore in 2014-15 and ₹ 12,940 crore in 2015-16.
