BJP Will Finish at No. 3 From Top or No. 1 from Bottom in UP

The Economic Times - - Pure Politics -

There is a wave in favour of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi ever since the SP and Congress struck an alliance in Uttar Pradesh, said RJD president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad. In an interview to ET’s on the sidelines of his campaign in Bulandshahr for the SPCongress alliance, he said the BJP knows it is set to face the same fate in UP assembly election as it did in Bihar and the panic is showing in PM Narendra Modi’s utterances. Edited excerpts:

PM Modi has termed the SPCongress alliance opportunistic like your alliance with Nitish Kumar… Modi is the Donald Trump of India. They are like twin brothers. Trump is doing upadrav (disturbance) in the US by banning entry of people from seven Muslim countries and Modi is doing upadrav in India. Whenever the UP election comes, Modi and his men in the BJP start remembering Lord Ram and Ram temple. The matter is pending in the Supreme Court. How can the BJP build a temple on its own? I and Nitish stopped the BJP rath in Bihar. Yahan UP mein toh rath hi nahin hai... sab pahiya vahiya toot chuka hai (There is no BJP rath in UP at all... all its wheels have come off). UP will teach a lesson to the likes of Yogi Adityanath and Ravi Shankar Prasad – the latter has made the worst statement on abolishing ‘triple talaq’. This is interference in the personal law of Muslims. It is against the Indian Constitution. BJP is trying to communalise the UP election. But the Muslims, other minorities and Dalits have understood the BJP game plan. It is all there in Golwalkar’s book – RSS is against the Dalits and reservation. RSS’ Mohan Bhagwat had said it in Bihar polls. Now, RSS has said it again before UP polls.

Hasn’t the fight within the Yadav BSP-BJP SECRECT PACT family dented SP’s prospects? There is a wave for Akhilesh and Rahul Gandhi. Akhilesh has done a lot of work – I am not saying this only because he is my relative but because everyone is saying ki ladke ka kaam bolta hai (that his works speaks for itself). He is young and Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) is firmly with him. Ab hum Yadav logon mein, hum se koi nahin ladta hai to hum Yadav log aapas mein hi lad lete hain (We Yadavs, if no one fights with us, fight among ourselves only)... (laughs). But now everything is all right. I will campaign in UP in the next phases.

BJP is attacking SP on law and order. Do you think this will deter voters from voting for SP-Congress alliance? Agar magar ka sawaal hi nahin hai... BJP ka supda saaf hai (There is no question of ifs and buts, BJP is out of the race in UP). BJP will be either at No. 3 from the top or No. 1 from the bottom. BJP raised so much horror of jungle-raj returning to Bihar if I and Nitish formed the government there. What happened? There is no jungle-raaj but only mangal-raaj (reign of bliss) in Bihar. The worst law and order is in Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. BJP is raising this in UP to divert people’s attention from ill-effects of demonetisation, which has destroyed lives of poor people and pushed the country back by 20 years. Modi said punish me on a chauraha (intersection) if demonetisation flops. I am still waiting for him to give me the address of the chauraha where he will come. They should tell how much black money came, what happened of Swiss bank accounts, where is the Rs 15 lakh they promised in each bank account. There is nothing in this year’s Budget either – where are the promised lakhs of jobs and claims of record economic growth? People are disillusioned with the BJP. Even their hardcore voters such as the traders and baniyas are angry after demonetisation. JOBS & POVERTY
