Reform Real Estate
This refers to ‘Budget’s Welcome Boost for Real Estate’ (Feb 10). Post-demonetisation, the government must reform real estate to stem the generation of black money. High stamp duties and registration charges raise the scope for underhand deals, and therefore states must come on board to slash duties. Their concerns over revenue loss are not baseless, but the adoption of goods on services tax will make good any revenue loss. Income-tax authorities should also keep continuous vigil through random scrutiny.
