Econ­o­mist BB Bhat­tacharya Dead

New Delhi: BB Bhat­tacharya, the for­mer vice-chan­cel­lor of Jawa­har­lal Nehru Univer­sity and an em­i­nent econ­o­mist, died in New Delhi on Tuesday af­ter suf­fer­ing a cardiac ar­rest. He was 71 and had been ail­ing for a while.

A for­mer con­sul­tant to the World Bank and the In­ter­na­tional Mon­e­tary Fund, Bhat­tacharya ad­vised var­i­ous agen­cies and de­part­ments of the In­dian gov­ern­ment on macroe­co­nomic is­sues. A trained econ­o­mist, he was also part of In­dia’s busi­ness academia, and held the pro­fes­so­rial chair at IIM-Luc­know, one of In­dia’s top four state-run man­age­ment in­sti­tutes.— Our Bureau
