While the court ver­dict is a scathing in­dict­ment of the for­mer CM Jay­alalithaa for in­dulged in amass­ing ill-got­ten wealth, the con­vic­tion of V K Sasikala in the dis­pro­por­tion­ate as­sets case for her com­plic­ity and the award of four-year im­pris­on­ment show that the law can’t be le­nient. TN gov­er­nor Vidyasagar Rao de­serves ku­dos for his dis­cre­tion to keep at abeyance the floor test of both the war­ring fac­tions to form the gov­ern­ment — es­pe­cially Sasikala’s group de­spite its con­sis­tent de­mands that even­tu­ally re­main un­war­ranted.
