Air­tel’s Av­er­age Data Down­load Speed High­est in Jan­uary

Bharti Air­tel’s av­er­age data down­load speed was the high­est in Jan­uary at 8.42 megabits per sec­ond (mbps), a tad faster than new en­trant Reliance Jio In­fo­comm’s 8.34 mbps, ac­cord­ing to data pub­lished on the tele­com reg­u­la­tor’s web­site on Thurs­day.

While mar­ket leader Bharti Air­tel’s av­er­age down­load speed dou­bled from 4.68 mbps in De­cem­ber, Jio’s fell sharply from 18.14 mbps in De­cem­ber, Trai data showed.

Voda­fone and Idea Cel­lu­lar in­creased the av­er­age down­load speed on their net­works last month. The speed on Voda­fone’s net­work in­creased to 6.8 mbps from 6.7 mbps, while Idea’s rose to 6.62 mbps from 5 mbps. BSNL’s av­er­age de­clined to 3.16 mbps from 3.42 mbps. —
