HC to Hear Fi­nal Ar­gu­ments in 23-Year-Old Duty Eva­sion Case Against Sasikala’s Hus­band on Feb 27

CHEN­NAI: The Madras High Court on Mon­day posted to Fe­bru­ary 27 the fi­nal ar­gu­ments in the 23-year-old duty eva­sion case against AIADMK gen­eral sec­re­tary VK Sasikala’s hus­band M Natara­jan, while im­port­ing a lux­ury car from the UK. Natara­jan and three oth­ers were con­victed for con­spir­acy, forgery, cheat­ing and tax eva­sion and sen­tenced to two years in jail in the case by a CBI court in 2010. How­ever, the or­der was stayed by the High Court against which the CBI had filed a pe­ti­tion. Dur­ing the ten­ure of Chief Jus­tice San­jay Kis­han Kaul, who was re­cently el­e­vated to the Supreme Court, the CBI had sought an early hear­ing of the case. —
