Apro­pos ‘Go Back to Chop­sticks’ by Aurodeep Nandi (Feb 21), the no­tion of In­dia ex­pe­ri­enc­ing mo­men­tary lau­rels be­cause the neigh­bour­ing com­peti­tor is ail­ing, is not worth rais­ing our col­lars. Com­pet­ing with China’s man­u­fac­tur­ing prow­ess is a far-fetched dream for In­dia. The paradigm shift from agrar­ian econ­omy to be­ing a man­u­fac­tur­ing leader still has some bot­tle­necks for In­dia. Yet, the Hu­man Devel­op­ment In­dex doesn’t help China’s growth, as some African coun­tries that rank higher but have neg­li­gi­ble growth proves.
