Answer Running Into ‘Record 233 Pages’

VP Hamid Ansari had an interesting point to make in the Rajya Sabha during Question Hour on Monday. He said a written answer to a question runs into a ‘record’ 233 pages. He lamented that it is humanly not possible for any member to read such a long reply in a short time — the answers are handed over a few minutes before the Question Hour begins. When Ansari said some system will have to be worked out, Congress’ Digvijaya Singh suggested that answers be provided online. His party colleague Jairam Ramesh quipped that the answer is ‘valuable’ and other ministers should also give such lengthy replies.
