China Ready to Sit Back

Af­ter over­see­ing months worth of grad­ual ap­pre­ci­a­tion in the yuan, China is now hint­ing it’s ready to sit back and see how things fly. A com­men­tary in the of­fi­cial China Se­cu­ri­ties Jour­nal sug­gested the time was right for more flex­i­bil­ity in the peo­ple’s cur­rency, as the mar­ket has “sta­bilised.” That’s left the yuan as the least volatile of all emerg­ing-mar­ket cur­ren­cies apart from Hong Kong’s dol­lar.
