Apex Court to Hear Today Congress’ Plea Against Nota in Rajya Sabha Elections

The Economic Times - - Pure Politics -

The Supreme Court will on Thursday hear a plea by the Gujarat Congress whip to knock off the Nota (none of the above) option from ballot papers for the Rajya Sabha polls scheduled for August 8. In his plea, Congress whip Shailesh Manubhai Parmar said the Nota option was intended to improve the poll process during direct elections to the Lok Sabha. But the same logic cannot be used in indirect elections such as the Rajya Sabha polls. The plea was put forward by senior advocate Kapil Sibal before a bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra, who will be CJI when Justice JS Khehar demits office. —
