If They Find Money in Some House in Delhi, it Doesn’t Become Ours

My brother does not have a PA in Delhi as is being claimed. If you conduct raids on the houses of all kinds of people and say all of it is Shivakumar’s, how can we accept that?

Congress MP from Bengaluru Rural DK Suresh, the brother of Karnataka power minister DK Shivakumar, told Sowmya Aji in an exclusive interview that they did not fear arrests and would not be intimidated by any attempts of the Centre to arm-twist them. Ahead of reports that the Enforcement Directorate would arrest Shivakumar, Suresh said the ₹ 10 crore the I-T department reportedly found during its raids, was in properties belonging to others. Excerpts:

How do you account for the money that taxmen said they found in properties connected to DK Shivakumar? They should tell us where the money came from, who brought it and kept it. We do not have that kind of money in our house. Whatever money we have in our account and our homes, we are ready to give the details to the income tax department. The I-T department said it had found cash in your brother’s flat in New Delhi’s Safdarjung Lane… If they find money in someone’s house in Delhi, it does not become ours. DK Shivakumar does not have a PA in Delhi as is being claimed. If

you conduct raids on the houses of all kinds of people and say all of it is Shivakumar’s, how can we accept that? Will the central government and I-T department transfer all their properties to us? If they will do it, then we DK Suresh arguing with CRPF officials at the entrance to the DK Shivakumar’s house at Sadashivanagar on Friday.—

will also accept it is ours. There must be some proof for any allegation.

Are you saying the raids did not yield any evidence against your brother? This is all politically motivated. They

want to fulfil the BJP president’s ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ plan. There is an election in Gujarat in three months. They are trying to write a foreword to that by winning the Rajya Sabha polls, even by killing democracy. FM Arun Jaitley said Shivakumar was tearing up papers at the resort where the Gujarat MLAs are being kept… Maybe Shivakumar was making some political calculations and tore those papers up. I wasn’t there. My room was not raided, but they searched his room, the rooms of a couple of our leaders and of about four Gujarat MLAs.

Your brother is the campaign committee chairman for Karnataka. Will these raids impact assembly polls? There will be no impact on Karnataka. Whatever political machinations the BJP does, it is our job to stop it.

Won’t corruption charges against Shivakumar impact your chances? The BJP should first look at its own reputation. (BJP state president BS) Yeddyurappa is corrupt, (former MLC) Janardhan Reddy is corrupt, (BJP MP) Sriramulu is corrupt. So many BJP people have gone to jail. They should not think people will forget everything. They think that by blackening Shivakumar’s face, they will gain. The people of this state know DK Shivakumar, know his character, know his business dealings from

years. Every year his income and assets are published by the media.

If everything is so clear, how come the raids are still going on? They are just calling it I-T raid. Everything got over on the first afternoon itself. But the officials are still sitting in our house saying we have to get orders from the Centre to move from here. They are asking the same questions, getting the same answers. What is there to do in our house? We meet the public, we get applications, we give letters, we have files. They are looking at all our files and passing time. They are trying to cause media buzz, create pressure on us, threaten and force us to confess us to some crimes. We are not the kind to be intimidated.

BJP is asking how did the son of a man who owned five acres amass ₹ 251 cr… Let them ask the income tax, whether we had five acres, 50 acres or 500 acres. I don’t have to answer the BJP or talk about the properties that they hold or their reputations.
