Bejul Somaia Taught me How to Hire Right

The Economic Times - - Disruption: Startups & Tech -

lem? He then suggested that I bring in someone who can complete the job for me. Bejul told me that across Lightspeed’s portfolio companies globally, they had consistently seen that bringing one good person in could change the destiny of the company. He told me that the best CEOs spend 40% of their time just meeting great people and bringing them on board and letting them do what they want to do.

Bejul’s advice about remembering that a company is just a collection of people and hence getting the right people who have the same ambition and the will to create an impact is crucial, came to me very early on, when we were just a few hotels old and still trying to get our model right. Two months later, we had Abhinav Sinha, our COO, and a few months later we had Kavikrut (chief growth officer), and then the others.

During all the tough times that the startup world has gone through, we at OYO Rooms have seen the least churn in leadership. A majority of our leadership has stayed for over 2 years and our company is just threeand-half years old!
