‘Here, Startups are Really Startups’ by Ambi Parameswaran (Aug 5) holds important lessons for Indian startups. The Indian mindset needs to incorporate ‘failure’, ‘innovation’ and ‘change’ as a part of business trajectory. With the manufacturing index slumping and the e-commerce market struggling in a saturated space, Indian startups in the technology ecosystem can provide a fresh impetus, if nurtured properly. Government, angel investors and venture capitalists should act as facilitators to promote them. The market has sufficient depth to allow the secondbest to coexist with startups with the first-mover advantage.
