Dig­i­tal Ease for the Masses

Apro­pos ‘Dig­i­tal De­sis’ by Shel­ley Singh (Aug 8), the gov­ern­ment has con­tin­u­ously high­lighted the ben­e­fits of us­ing elec­tronic trans­ac­tions over the tra­di­tional means. De­spite cheap data rates, half of the pop­u­la­tion is dig­i­tally ex­cluded. The data clearly shows that a big part of the coun­try’s pop­u­la­tion is un­touched by dig­i­tal ease. They still take re­course to la­bo­ri­ous pro­ce­dures that in­volve cash with­drawals and pay­ments by cheques. In­dia should lever­age on dig­i­tal speed to make the econ­omy aero­dy­namic.
