Equities Seem A Good Bet

The Economic Times - - The Edit Page -

Indian equities seem to be cheering demonetisation. The stock market is experiencing a period of boom. A good monsoon, spurt in consumer spending, especially after the 7th Pay Commission award, coupled with the impact of digitisation are driving the stock markets. With interest on fixed deposits dropping and demand for gold staying relatively stagnant, equities seem a good bet for retail investors. The momentum can be sustained with action on the policy front to spur anaemic private investment, and that calls for a clean-up of banks’ books. The regulator should also play a role in increasing investor awareness.
