30 Kids Die in Go­rakh­pur Govt Hospi­tal within 2 Days

UP govt says re­ports at­tribut­ing deaths to lack of oxy­gen sup­ply are mis­lead­ing

New Delhi|Go­rakh­pur: At least 30 chil­dren died in gov­ern­ment-run Baba Raghav Das Med­i­cal Col­lege in Go­rakh­pur in the last 48 hours, district mag­is­trate Ra­jeev Rautela said on Fri­day. He gave no rea­sons for the deaths but said 17 chil­dren died in the neo-na­tal ward, 5 in AES (acute en­cephali­tis syn­drome) ward and 8 in the gen­eral ward.

Rautela said seven deaths (neo-na­tal ward 3, AES ward 2 and gen­eral ward 2) were re­ported early Fri­day, while the re­main­ing 23 deaths (neona­tal 14, AES 3 and gen­eral 6) hap­pened be­fore that. Ac­cord­ing to un­con­firmed re­ports oxy­gen sup­ply to the hospi­tal ran out for al­most two hours late on Thurs­day night due to cut in sup­ply for non-pay­ment of dues by the pri­vate sup­plier.
