Fitting Tribute to Saumitra

The Economic Times - - Breaking Ideas -

Apropos the Edit, ‘The OneHanded Economist, Anyone?’ (Aug 11), it’s a fitting tribute to the late Saumitra Chaudhuri, who was among the most versatile home-grown economists employed by government with a perfect understanding of all domains and the determination to deliver results. As rightly pointed out, C Rangarajan, Rakesh Mohan, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Pronab Sen, among others, are also brilliant economists. India has enough potential to create talented home-grown economists who can make sound policies, understand and work within the government and deliver the best under any situation.
