Skill In­dia Team to Com­pete at Abu Dhabi Meet Next Month

New Delhi: More than two dozen young peo­ple will rep­re­sent In­dia at the WorldSkills Com­pe­ti­tion in Abu Dhabi next month. The mem­bers of the 28-strong team have re­ceived ex­ten­sive train­ing — some at a MercedesBenz plant in Ger­many, while oth­ers learnt brick-and-tile lay­ing in Den­mark, weld­ing at a Lin­coln Electric (In­dia) plant.

The skill de­vel­op­ment min­istry will head the con­tin­gent that aims to com­pete in 26 job roles un­der the men­tor­ship of in­dus­try ex­perts. Youth from across the world will work on mul­ti­ple projects dur­ing the four-day event and will be graded ac­cord­ing to how well they com­plete their tasks.

The com­pe­ti­tion, held once in two years, is con­ducted in more than 50 trades. In­dia aims to raise its par­tic­i­pa­tion to 36 roles in the 2019 com­pe­ti­tion, which will be held in Rus­sia.
