New Delhi: Loktantrik Janata Dal mentor Sharad Yadav has hit out at the UP government for renaming cities and said such actions amounted to tampering with history. “I condemn the move of the government for its quest of changing the names of cities, streets and roads, etc. at the cost of the taxpayers’ money which is unjustified. There is historical reasons behind the names of most cities, and therefore, tampering with history can’t be the prerogative of apolitical party one”, Yadav said in a statement after UP government renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj and Faizabad as Ayodhya. Yadav asked the BJP government to “devote its time in providing jobs to youth, increasing income of farmers, bringing back black money and other pre-poll promises rather than indulging in drama.”—
