Over 12 cos get show­cause for coal block de­vel­op­ment de­lays

New Delhi, Dec 30: The coal min­istry on Mon­day is­sued show­cause notices to more than a dozen com­pa­nies, in­clud­ing pri­vate play­ers like Es­sar Power, Hin­dalco, SKS Is­pat and Power and Prakash In­dus­tries, and state-run util­i­ties such as Ma­hagenco and Mad­hya Pradesh State Min­ing Cor­po­ra­tion, for al­leged de­lays in the de­vel­op­ment of cap­tive coal blocks.

Th­ese com­pa­nies have to re­ply to the min­istry within 20 days, ex­plain­ing why the de­lays should not be held as a vi­o­la­tion of the terms of the al­lo­ca­tion, and why th­ese blocks should not be deal­lo­cated.

Sig­nif­i­cantly, de­vel­op­ment work on most of th­ese blocks is be­ing held up due to green hur­dles or land ac­qui­si­tion prob­lems. Ram­swarup Loh Udyog, Ad­hu­nik Cor­po­ra­tion, ACC Ce­ment and Ch­hat­tis­garh Sur­guja Power are the other com­pa­nies that have been is­sued such notices.

Moira Mad­hu­jore, Fateh­pur Vi­jay Cen­tral, Amelia North, Ra­jga­mar Dip­side, Bhivkund, Ma­han, Pin­drakhi and Puta Paro­gia, Morga-IV, Ch­ha­trasal and Med­ni­rai are some of the blocks at stake.
