Admission to deemed varsities to be through NEET

-

The state’s medical education ministry has made a decision that the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) will be applicable for admissions to deemed universities.

The decision has added about 2,100 seats state-wide which will be available for medical aspirants through NEET. The move was made to check the rampant corruption in deemed universities which held their own entrance examinations for admissions. Candidates had to fill separate application forms and appear for their separate entrance tests, which caused inconvenience.

As per the government decision, 85% of seats in deemed universities will be filled through NEET and the remaining 15% through management quota.

Medical aspirants in the state struggle for seats as government medical and dental colleges in the state have about 3,000 seats while private colleges - about 3,900.

The additional seats available have come as a relief to them.
