FAMILY OF 7-YR-OLD RAPE VICTIM GETS THREAT

-

MUMBAI: A seven-year-old rape victim and her family members have been getting threat calls to withdraw the case. A non-cognisable offence was registered on Tuesday at the Samta Nagar police station. The victim’s mother had filed a rape case against the accused on September 8. The 28-year-old accused, Gopal Rai alias Sonu, is absconding. He had been staying in the same house where the seven-year-old victim stays with her parents in Kandivali. The accused is a close relative of the victim and had been working as a salesman in a shopping mall. The victim’s mother claimed that the accused had been involved in many such incidents in the past but no case had been registered against him. She, however, said that they had not expected the accused to repeat his acts in their house.“Gopal is the son of my sister’s jeth (elder brother of sister’s husband). We never thought that he will do such heinous act in my house,”said the victim’s mother.“The police assured us that he will be arrested but no fruitful result has come so far. And now we have started getting threat calls. On Sunday, the brother, his wife and father called my mother and brother, who stay in Gorakhpur (UP), and asked them to convince me to withdraw the case or else they would kill us,” she said.
