Kids have lucky es­cape as tree falls on bus

Fifty-four stu­dents and a cou­ple of staffers of a Thane-based pri­vate school had a nar­row es­cape af­ter a huge tree keeled over and fell on the bus in which they were trav­el­ling for a pic­nic to Es­selWorld on Saturday.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice the in­ci­dent was re­ported near Don­gri-Talavali vil­lage on the Go­rai Road in Bhayan­dar at around 10 am.

The stu­dents of Nav Daya English School were headed for a pic­nic to Es­selWorld, when one the three buses met with the mishap leav­ing the front wind­shield glass com­pletely shat­tered.

While the driver sus­tained mi­nor bruises, all other oc­cu­pants were for­tu­nate to es­cape un­scathed. All the stu­dents were ac­com­mo­dated in the other two buses.

Po­lice and fire bri­gade per­son­nel reached the spot and cut the tree into pieces, which were re­moved from the road with the help of lo­cal vil­lagers.

How­ever, the in­ci­dent lead to an hour-long traf­fic jam on the Go­rai Road.
