Unsafe banks

The Free Press Journal - - EDIT -

Bank burglary where thieves tunnel 25 feet into bank to loot lockers in Juhinagar, Navi Mumbai of Bank of Baroda branch comes as a shock. Security at banks today is negligible & tunnelling activities that go unnoticed speak poorly about the security & intelligence of our armed agencies that are supposed to guard our financial institutions. Our valuables are safer in our homes than in bank lockers. Locker rents of most banks have increased multi-fold, but safety standards today are at all-time low.‘Your valuables in bank lockers are your responsibility’ say banking

regulations which makes one wonder why we pay huge fees to rent lockers in banks. The banks should be made liable of negligence in cases of locker thefts when customers pay fees for the safeguard of their valuables in bank property. RBI too should look into the safety measures whenever they give permission for bank branches to be opened in remote areas.
