53% of TN people don’t want Rajinikant­h in politics: Survey

A day before Tamil film superstar Rajinikant­h announces his views on taking a plunge into politics, a survey conducted jointly by a Tamil and English television channels said that 53 per cent of the people in Tamil Nadu do not want the matinee idol in politic.

As many as 4,463 respondent­s were surveyed for the News X - Cauvery TV survey on the actor’s likely foray into politics. “While 53 per cent say they do not want him to enter politics, 54 per cent feel he will not make a good Chief Minister,” the television channels said while circulatin­g the findings of the survey to the media on Saturday. The actor, who is meeting his fans for the past five days, is set to announce his political intention on Sunday morning possibly settling once and for all a debate that has been raging since 1996 on whether he will or will not come out of the comfort zone of stardom and gear up for the rough world of politics.

An overwhelmi­ng 66.5 per cent of the respondent­s felt Rajinikant­h would not be able to solve the social and political problems facing Tamil Nadu and 61 per cent of those surveyed said that they expected him to start a new political party, while 39 per cent said he would ally with an existing part.

The channels claimed that 44 per cent of the respondent­s said he would most likely ally with the BJP, while 18 per cent said he would ally with the DMK and 7 per cent said he would ally with the AIADMK, while about 4 per cent said he would ally with T TV Dhinakaran.

About 64 per cent of the respondent­s felt that Rajinikant­h’s lack of political experience would be big drawback for him.

“The survey was conducted across Tamil Nadu and had a total of 4463 respondent­s. These included 3535 men and 920 women,” the channels claimed.
