53% of TN peo­ple don’t want Ra­jinikanth in pol­i­tics: Sur­vey

A day be­fore Tamil film su­per­star Ra­jinikanth an­nounces his views on tak­ing a plunge into pol­i­tics, a sur­vey con­ducted jointly by a Tamil and English tele­vi­sion chan­nels said that 53 per cent of the peo­ple in Tamil Nadu do not want the mati­nee idol in politic.

As many as 4,463 re­spon­dents were sur­veyed for the News X - Cau­very TV sur­vey on the ac­tor’s likely foray into pol­i­tics. “While 53 per cent say they do not want him to en­ter pol­i­tics, 54 per cent feel he will not make a good Chief Min­is­ter,” the tele­vi­sion chan­nels said while cir­cu­lat­ing the find­ings of the sur­vey to the me­dia on Satur­day. The ac­tor, who is meet­ing his fans for the past five days, is set to an­nounce his po­lit­i­cal in­ten­tion on Sun­day morn­ing pos­si­bly set­tling once and for all a de­bate that has been rag­ing since 1996 on whether he will or will not come out of the com­fort zone of star­dom and gear up for the rough world of pol­i­tics.

An over­whelm­ing 66.5 per cent of the re­spon­dents felt Ra­jinikanth would not be able to solve the social and po­lit­i­cal prob­lems fac­ing Tamil Nadu and 61 per cent of those sur­veyed said that they ex­pected him to start a new po­lit­i­cal party, while 39 per cent said he would ally with an ex­ist­ing part.

The chan­nels claimed that 44 per cent of the re­spon­dents said he would most likely ally with the BJP, while 18 per cent said he would ally with the DMK and 7 per cent said he would ally with the AIADMK, while about 4 per cent said he would ally with T TV Dhi­nakaran.

About 64 per cent of the re­spon­dents felt that Ra­jinikanth’s lack of po­lit­i­cal ex­pe­ri­ence would be big draw­back for him.

“The sur­vey was con­ducted across Tamil Nadu and had a to­tal of 4463 re­spon­dents. These in­cluded 3535 men and 920 women,” the chan­nels claimed.
