Hypocrisy at its peak

After keeping a stony silence for days together and only after the entire nation and the opposition parties rose in clamour against the rapists who have committed the heinous crimes in Kathua and Unnao and the Allahabad Court has passed stinging strictures against the UP government , the Attorney General and the police all of whom have tried to protect the rapist MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, Prime Minister Modi has opened his mouth to pronounce, ‘our daughters will get justice’! It is but natural that from the UP chief minister Adityanath, who has with one stroke scrapped 20,000 criminal cases pending against his saffron criminal brethren including a criminal case pending against him, we cannot expect justice. Even his much belated assurance that severe action would be taken against the rapists is an eye wash and only exposes his hypocrisy. It is also a tragedy that except Menaka Gandhi, who has rightly advocated death penalty for rape on children below 12 years, none of the other women ministers, like Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitaraman who always jump to counter any allegations, have opted to go silent despite innocent minors have been brutally raped and massacred by the beasts. — Tharcius S Fernando
